A note from Spiros

"Welcome to Zakynthos — my home, my favourite place on earth. This isn't a tourist brochure. This is the guide I'd give my best friend before they flew in. The information here has been gathered through personal experience and hard-tested with countless happy travellers throughout the years. So use it well, and you'll leave with memories that stay with you for life. I promise!"

Zakynthos in a nutshell

Everything you need to know before you arrive

☀️

When to visit — pick your season

Off season — Apr, May, Oct

Best prices, fewer crowds, a more chill and local experience. Weather can turn, nightlife is quiet — but honestly that's part of the charm.

Ideal for: People who want the full Zakynthos experience at a fraction of the price.

Mid season — Jun, Sep ⭐

The sweet spot. Vibrant yet peaceful, hot days and chill nights, less busy streets and fewer crowds. Honestly perfect.

Ideal for: Everyone. The only downside is if you can't be here.

High season — Jul, Aug

The full Greek summer — always sunny, perfect sea, vibrant nightlife, traditional festivals. Highest costs, traffic, packed beaches, brutal heat.

Ideal for: People who want peak Greek summer energy and are not in any rush.

Island size

About 40km long and 20km wide. You can circle the whole island in a day — but don't rush it. And no matter what you do, you have to get on a boat to see the true beauty.

Sea temperature

The Ionian sea stays warm June through October. By August it's like bath water. Make sure to grab some snorkelling gear and dive into the majestic blue.

Budget tips

Rent a vehicle — it beats taxis completely. On a tight budget, a diet of souvlaki and gyros is both delicious and very cheap. At the beach, skip the sunbeds.

National Marine Park

Laganas Bay is the heart of the National Marine Park — a protected Natura area and nesting home for Caretta Caretta sea turtles. Always be respectful. You are the guest.

Getting around

There's no reliable public transport outside the main town and taxis cost a fortune. You genuinely need your own wheels here. That's exactly why you're reading this guide.
